This is a valuable book for younger adults as it gives a peek into life in Mexico and the difficulties in crossing the border. When I was younger, a lot of people made fun of crossing the border. Diego comes from a poor family who simply wants something better for himself, and it's an understandable desire. If you stay in town you're stuck. The differences become apparent when one of his brothers return. Overall, the book encompasses the journey to cross over the border. The imagery was quite nice, making it easy to visualize this town.

I thought I would like this book because it was set in a town near where I live. However, I did not like this book.
