My two children both really enjoyed reading this as a family. The boy in the story is faced with relatable challenges for children that they may experience when coloring with crayons (broken crayons, missing colors, etc.). I was delighted when my six year old noticed that the main character was having to show “perseverance” (thank you to his kindergarten teacher for working on this life skill!). The illustrations are very well done and the amount of text on each page was reasonable for my children’s short attention spans. My son has requested I read this book multiple nights this week.

I enjoyed reading this story! I was excited to share this with my students as it talks about mixing colors. I also enjoyed how your crayon didn't need to be perfect to create something! I have since purchased this book for our school library and have had the honour of hosting Ms. Hutchins at our school! Great story!

There are many things to love in this beautiful book
Earlier I might have thought of crayons that snapped as waste - but I came across an inspirational quote that instead of worrying to put them back to gether, use them as too different pieces. Also called parallelism in hardware. Cause now people can draw with the broken thing.
Evan is so creative. he creates such magic with the broken crayons.
I loed the page where he left a shape uncolored as he lost the color green. It happens so much with my daughter, that in the homeowrk she relabels colors.
Evan even learns about the color wheel a bit about how he can makeup for some colors by mixing others.
The most bets part above all these things that I liked about it is that - Evan is in the picture as he is drawing. It is like he is drawing on a life size drawing sheet. i love the big paper, where you can express yourself loud.
