I was not able to finish the book. It did not captivate me, could not hold my attention, otherwise left me wanting to read something else. A real shame as it seemed like a promising title.
I picked this up since it's story had a unique approach to the genre, however this just didn't work for me. It ended up being a DNF unfortunately. I would not add this to my library.
I did enjoy this book but there were times that I felt that the plot was just a little under developed, especially from the middle and onwards. I also did not really love the characters which just made it slightly harder to like the book. However, the plot did save the book as it was fast paced and for the most part quite fun.
Would definitely enjoy reading more books about this world.
I love this authors books and reading this one was a rollicking good time. There is such imagination within the pages.
Many thanks to Chelshire Inc and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Short, quick to read and yet has you interested all the way through.
I loved the fact that it wasn't convoluted or with huge swaths of backstory.
For once there weren't rules and grey areas. Good witches are protected, bad witches are not.
Super fun read! I really enjoyed this and the world created and getting to know the characters! It was definitely a fun ride that I think many people will enjoy reading.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it was nice. Nothing heavy or earth shattering. Sometimes the high fantasy and the deeply urban fantasies I read just become a little too much and I just need an escape from the hellfire and brimstone and this was it. A law enforcement agency protecting the good witches of the world is a nice way to use coppers. There was enough magic to satisfy everyone while also offering up a bit of a cozy mystery vibe.
Almost like a cozy fantasy.
Just a lighthearted witchy read that is sure to delight any diehard fantasy fan.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get this book to format correctly on my Kobo. For some reason the text was jumbled, so that if you read every other line you might be able to piece together the story. Weird. I tried several times because I was really interested to read this book!
This book was a little ridiculous at times, but when you're writing about supernatural beings, logic can happily go out of the window. A great read!
Thank you Netgalley for my review copy for an impartial review.
It wasn't that this book was badly written or that it's storyline had a good premise but I couldn't finish it because I was bored and didn't connect with the characters. If someone is looking for a fun quick read i recommend but it wasn't really my thing.
I'm not usually a fan of books with "witches" in the title but I thought I'd give it a try. The premise was intriguing and the author kept me interested enough to want to read on. I really liked the character of Wes and was rooting for him throughout. I also enjoyed the characterization of Morgan Pendragon. Some humor made it a well rounded book.
I absolutely love the cover for this book. It's super intriguing and is what drew me to the book initially. Then when I read the blurb I knew I needed to have this book on my virtual shelf. Not normally my style but this quick Paranormal Urban Fantasy read which takes place in New York City was a wonderful surprise in a book.
The book is focused on two types of witches, the good called Divinas and the bad called Willas. There is also a secret government agency, naturally called the Witches Protection Program. This agency protects the Divinas from the Willas, and all the other supernatural things that most normal people don't know about.
The main character us Wes Rockville, a law enforcement agent, who has had his first case go bad. His father, also his superior, sends him to the Witches Protection Program. A sort of, last chance to prove himself vibe is given when this happens. Wes doesn't believe anything that is currently happening to him, and when his partner discovers an evil, power-hungry witch, things get interesting.
Overall, this story is a fun, easy, fast-paced read, despite the slow start.
I was given this book by NetGalley and Chelshire Inc. and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles, in exchange for my honest opinion. That is all it is, my honest opinion.
This book was so much fun and on several occasions, found myself laughing out loud! A secret police organization, meant to protect the city from bad witches, take on an inept new recruit, who has no idea that witches exist. This adventure was about Wes learning to navigate the city, with a grizzly new partner and a lot of new info and toys. The characters are well developed and engaging. The book was very descriptive and had a well thought out story line.
I would recommend to readers, who like humour with their paranormal. I would love to see new books, in this series.
This book was actually really funny! It was a super quick read as well. My only major complaint is that it jumped in RIGHT AWAY without much preface, but I guess they wanted us to feel surprised and caught off guard just like Wes did when he got his assignment. Overall a great read!
Wes Rockville, a disgraced law enforcement agent, is given one last chance to prove himself and save his career when he’s reassigned to a 232 year old secret government organization. The Witches Protection Program.
A light-hearted tale whose idea sounded better than I found the execution. The characters were pretty stock; it read like the novelization of a low budget TV movie.
A pleasant beach read.
I wasn't sure what to expect of this book... the premise was intriguing but the results of the genre can be hit or miss. I also like the beginning of new series because you get the foundational information on the characters. Michael Philip Cash introduces humor into the story - which, if you're a cop discovering a world you never knew existed - is a good thing. There were predictable storylines - son trying to redeem himself to his father, plots to rule the world, messed up family relationships - but humor and twists as well. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes next. It was a light read, kind of a guilty pleasure, and definitely a way to escapist entertainment.
