A teacher, a P.I., a child with special needs, a carnival, a jealous ex, and plenty of secrets in this slightly spicy sweet story. I loved the canadian elements and a heartfelt story of a single mom trying to keep everything together, sometimes it takes a village. If Kate can trust Matt she might find she's still worthy of a happy ever after.
This was a fast read, but surprisingly deep. From the back cover I knew that Kate had issues with police, but as you read the story and learn more about her past you realize just how hard her life was. I love how much she had overcome and how strong she was.
I really liked Matt too. He wasn't perfect, but you could tell how hard he was working to connect with Kate. He had tons of swoonworthy moments in this book.
I really like how James writes steamy books without explicit sex scenes. I would call her books mostly closed door or maybe door slightly ajar as she gives you glimpses to what is coming, but nothing more.
This book could be triggering for anyone with domestic abuse triggers.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
