A good sport romance centered around hockey. Lovey (to be honest didn’t like the name) comes to Chicago to stay with her famous brother who is a hockey player, and meets his roommate Marc, and lust and then love ensures. Liked this one and the fast pace shown. Would highly recommend, and would be a good summer read too.
In Kelly Jamiesons seductive new Chicago Aces romanceperfect for readers of Sawyer Bennett and Toni Aleoa fun-loving free spirit tempts an uptight hockey star into opening himself up to love.
This was my FIRST book by this author and I can't say that I'm impressed at this point. Unfortunately, after trying many of the books that I've had on my shelf for some time, I've come to the conclusion that this author's voice/writing style doesn't work for me. I have tried numerous books of hers and it just doesn't work. I love the hockey romance trope and it works for me, but I couldn't really connect with this author's style of writing.
If I'm being honest with myself, she's a bland writer, with a surface scratching depth. I want depth. I want a soul searching love that makes me want to keep turning the pages. When I try to look deeper into these storylines, I'm just not feeling it at all. I like being able to sink into a book, to get lost in the words, and be able to fall in love with the characters, and on these books I just couldn't. I'm sad about this as many of her books were on my shelf and I wasn't able to get very far in any of them.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing what the next book in the series brings! On to Off Limits and Andrews story!
This is the first book in the Aces Hockey series by Kelly Jamieson. I hate to say this but as much as I was looking forward to another Hockey romance, this one just did not do it for me.
I did love that Marc was the good one in this instead of Lovey. It was different to see the hero as the good person as opposed to the heroine. I just felt that there was no connection between the two main characters though. Lovey was a bit of a spoiled brat that got whatever she wanted, when she wanted it.
I just couldn't get into this story at all. I would say give it a shot because it could just be me but something just didn't click with all of this for me. Sorry!
Sadly on this occasion this one unfortunately wasn’t for me.
MAJOR MISCONDUCT - Kelly Jamieson
#1 Aces Hockey
GREAT CHARACTERS - 4 stars
Plot - 3.5 stars - Lacey, Duncan's flighty and impulsive sister arrives on his doorstep, hoping to stay with him for an indefinite period. Despite his misgivings, she moves in and there's an immediately attraction between her and his sexy roommate Marc. As a relationship between them develops, it gets more serious even as they try to keep it a secret from Duncan.
Writing - 4 stars - I got involved in this story right from the beginning. The relationships built quickly, and we got to know the characters right away and got involved in their lives and decisions. I liked the triangle between Lovey and her brother and Marc, with interesting interactions between each of the pairs--Lovey and Marc's sexual scenes, Lovey and Duncan's family history, and Duncan and Marc's hockey games and their friendly camaraderie.
Characters - 4.5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Lacey is impossible to dislike--she's silly and impulsive and fun. I found her so cute as she wrapped Duncan around her little finger. And her job of social media advisor was fascinating and something new to me. I enjoyed reading about it as she grew her business. And, of course, Marc's attraction for her is a major problem since she's Duncan's little sister. Marc is strong and sure and steady, with a rather somber personality when he's being captain-like. But he has a core of tenderness that really shines through when he's involved with Lacey. Their relationship made sense. However, it always burns me when one part of a couple makes the decisions for both of them, and one of the later scenarios lost some points for me. But it definitely accentuated their personalities and provided some angst to keep things interesting. And it gave the characters the opportunity for some soul-searching and self-awareness that I found meaningful and definitely appropriate.
Title - 4 stars - Great title since the sexual relationship between Lacey and Marc is basically a no-no because of the "don't touch my sister" rule among guys. With a play on a hockey term, the title is very apt.
Cover - 3 stars - The guy on the cover is great looking, but a black/white/gray cover isn't particularly appealing.
Overview - 4 stars - Overall, this was a very enjoyable romance. It moved quickly, with a lot of character development even though there wasn't really a lot of action. I enjoyed watching the interactions between the 3 main characters, but especially Marc and Lovey, of course. Even though their relationship was mainly sexual, there was an undercurrent of caring that shone through even though it wasn't voiced. We really got to know them both, and I was definitely rooting for their success. And I especially loved the sappy ending!
I read the second in this series first and thought it didn't have much action. Now that I know the characters much better, I think I would have enjoyed the progression a lot more if I had read this first-in-series book first. They are both standalones, but the knowledge of the characters and their motivations definitely would have helped.
