This is a @netgalley #bookreview that is long overdue. I unfortunately did not get around to reading this until 3 years after the book was published. It’s a story that I would have probably not selected on my own, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy @netgalley selections. This is #historicalfiction about illegal love in the years leading up to and after #ww2. I enjoyed the historical narrative and discovering details about two of my favorite cities (#NYC and #Paris) that I haven’t focused on before. Yet there was still something lacking to make this an excellent read. A ⭐️⭐️⭐️ book that is not a waste of time but a #goodread to fill your free time. 📚📚📚 #reading #bookrecommendation #netgalley
I found the facts and stories about the oppression of colored people informative and importand to be remembered. Unfortunately, everything else I was not able to connect with. The characters are half-developed (mainly Julian, who is kind of "wannabe" hero, part Cary Grant, part self-made criminal, part nouveau riche, part tragical, melancholy soul, part noble partisan - and this mix is just not working for me). This book needs a good editor, too.
