I read The Word Game a while ago but I still find myself randomly thinking about it. This is a story about family secrets and stories that should have been told. One person's perspective about what happened way back when is not always the way it really happened. What is the cost to a family when things are covered up and ultimately not talked about?

It's a word game after all. Who's telling the truth?
Who's lying? Who's hiding something?

The Word Game will make you think about family dynamics and the secrets that are kept—maybe for the right reasons, maybe not. This was the first book of Steena's that I had read. I have since read other books by her and she always weaves such intriguing tales. I know I am in for a treat when I start one of her books.

This wonderful book is the story of sisters, Alyson and Tricia, and their own young daughters. When Alyson's daughter, Lyla, spends the night with several other girls at Tricia's house, she comes home with some unsettling statements. Alyson is alarmed, and begins to try to puzzle out what is really going on. This leads to the unearthing of buried family secrets and heartache for more than one character.

The story was fast moving and interesting. The characters were well developed, and the family drama played out in a poignant way. I'll be reading more by this author!

Firstly I want to say how much I love this cover. It certainly had me wanting to read the book even more so.

Due to Allysons past she has become an overprotective mother to her daughter Lyla. Alyson finds herself allowing her daughter to have a sleep over at Alyson sister Trishas house. She soon regrets it when truths come to the surface and she finds herself along with her sister having to face their past.

A really well written story about child sex abuse, a subject that is hard to read about but needs to be spoke and written about more.
Looking forward to reading more from this author.
