Interesting story about estranged sisters set against the wonderful background of the 1935 World's Fair in San Diego. Loved any descriptions of the World's Fair on the eve of WWII and the midst of the Great Depression. However, the nudist colony setting seemed unnecessary to the story and kind of added on for shock value. The novel would have been just as good, if not better, without it.
Very nicely written and enjoyable story,
Thank you to Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing for the advance copy!
Whistling Women did a good job of diving into the complexities of family relationships. Two estranged sisters that hadn't spoken in years were able to heal. I kind of felt that the nudist colony aspect was more for shock value. It didn't really add anything to the story.
I am not going to be reviewing this book, but thank you for the approval.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book initially appealed to me because the storyline was "different". The book was just okay for me. I found the pace to be rather slow and the character development seem incomplete.
