A very good historical romance.
I love both Jessie and Daniel and they make the perfect couple. I love that they support each other and fight the obstacles together.
The plot is interesting and filled with action. It moves along very well and it’s easy to follow. There’s enough thrill and adventure to keep the story interesting throughout the whole book. The plot twists make you gasp and they make the ending so much better.
All in all, a great historical romance.
Mary Jo Putney never fails to please. I just finished reading an advance copy of "Not Always a Saint" and as always, Putney has given us a richly layered story with a compelling plot and fascinating characters.
Dr. Daniel Herbert hasn't made time for romance since he lost his betrothed years ago. Beautiful widow Jessie Kelham doesn't want a husband, but she needs one to protect her young daughter from a relative who's after her inheritance. They have an instant attraction that they both try to fight, until they have no choice but to move forward together.
I raced through this book, because the characters were so interesting and I really wanted to see how they would resolve their various problems. Both Daniel and Jessie are dealing with major changes in their lives, and their pasts make them a little wary of trusting and giving to each other completely.
This is the seventh in Putney's "Lost Lords" series, but it's not necessary to read the others to enjoy this one. Of course, you will likely want to read them after you turn the last page.
I received a free electronic copy of the book to write this review, but I promise, the glowing report is my true opinion of the work.
This one just didn't work for me, unfortunately. The "lust at first sight" trope never ends up working for me, and I'm sad to say that it didn't work this time either. I'm still very interested in reading more from this author, though.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was well written, it had a steady pace right to the end, some heated love scenes, action, adventure, a great cast of secondary characters (that stayed secondary) and some warped villains - it had it all!
Daniel was an outstanding hero. He is smart, handsome, giving, brave and very, very understanding. Jessie is a good heroine, but I thought she was a bit selfish. I believe she loves Daniel - but I felt like she used him at the beginning.
Daniel was the shining star of this book in my opinion. The book is worth reading, simply because he is in it.
I would recommend this book and I hope that Gordon is the hero of the next one!
