Ask him why.
I’m going to sum this up with one sentence:-
Never Assume
Assuming things can get you into trouble
A page turner, with an interesting plot and incredibly relatable characters.

This author always writes such emotional stories with likeable, caring, believable characters. Ask Him Why is another wonderful story from Catherine Ryan Hyde.
I was immediately swept up in the drama of Aubrey, Ruth, and Joseph. It's is amazing how one incident can affect so many lives and change so many feelings. As the three of them embark on a journey to find the truth, and each other, the reader is blessed with the words of wisdom that are to be savored from the pages of the book.
As usual when I read one of Catherine's stories, I fell in love with the characters and truly came to feel what they are going through. I race through her stories because they are just that good but I also treasure each page as I go, wishing it could go on and on.
“Ask Him Why” by Catherine Ryan Hyde
War. It affects all of us to one degree or another. From the soldier fighting, his or her family, his or her community, and to some degree, the nation.
When Joe makes a decision that may or may not have affected the rest of his unit on a mission, it has far-reaching consequences.
“Ask Him Why,” explores the journey Joe has taken and will take, as well as each member of his family, and the community reaction where they live, work, and have set their lives for years. It explores the reaction of many as well as individually. It examines the lessons learned, the truths hidden and clear, and the rationale for each person’s behavior.
A wonderful look at the consequences of war, ones individual decision, and how it affects so many.

** I read and reviewed an advanced copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book. Interesting character development. intriguing (and difficult) family dynamics. Unpredictable storyline. I would have liked to have learned more about the brother's birthdays and why he keft, and about the housekeeper who seemed to have an important role.
This is an instance where the title really sums up the book well. Communication, or the lack thereof, drives so much of this story of a family that disintegrates after an event that’s shrouded in mystery. We watch the family members as they come to terms with that disintegration, and the aftermath when they finally begin to ask the all-important question “Why?” As I read I was reminded of one of important lessons my dad tried to teach me - never assume anything. So many of the issues the family faced were the result of bad assumptions on the part of the parents and the siblings, and their failure to ask that simple, one-word question. It’s heart-breaking, it’s maddening, it’s excellent. I love Catherine Ryan Hyde’s books, she writes families (in all their forms) beautifully, and this story is no exception.
