I have to admit I'm likely primed to like Graffin's conclusions through his lyrics but nevertheless I recognize there are some flaws in the book wherein I did not agree and the prose simply rambled on and on. The core lesson of the book is essentially that annihilation (war, destruction) is untenable and unnatural rather we need to coexist and act as stewards. I'm totally with him on this. By using the biological definition of populations (not the literary or common use one), Graffin correlates and points out very interesting links between nature (at both micro and macro scopic levels) and broader human social conflicts. However, this at times felt strained and the level of biological explanation occasionally exceeded how much I needed to understand the example. His explanations are invariably in plain language and accessibly written but simply took too much time by which it was sometimes difficult to remember why you were learning about the nitty gritty of amoebas.
