Gardening shouldn’t require a huge water bill. While I garden in a climate where drought is rare (though it does occur), I don’t always want to worry if I remembered to water various containers throughout the growing season. Bainbridge provides insight into traditional sustainable methods for using less water. It’s very easy to incorporate small changes to my containers that will have a large impact. It was nice to learn about other techniques beyond burying terracotta pots, known as olla, and harvesting of rainwater. I hope publication by Storey will further improve education and knowledge of these traditional techniques, and more importantly incorporation into gardens in both drought-prone areas and water rich ones.
