I was so happy to receive an Advanced Readers Copy of this anthology – and so near to Christmas too. I loved that it had many of my favorite authors as well as some with whom I was unfamiliar. What a great way to try out an unfamiliar author. The Christmas of 1815 will be the 50th time Lady Holly has thrown her annual Christmas Ball. It is also just after the end of the Napoleonic wars. Her Christmas ball has the reputation for being a Last Chance for ‘spinsters’ to find a mate and many love matches are made there.
These eight stories follow many of the people who are either in attendance at the ball or are on their way, etc. You have lost lovers reuniting, wounded war heroes reawakening to love, married couples reconciling – rakes, rogues and soft-hearted sentimentalists – they are all in here.
• Prologue: Jo Beverley – Great introductions to the characters involved in the other stories
• My True Love Hath My Heart: Joanna Bourne –
• A Scottish Carol: Susan King –
• Christmas Larks: Patricia Rice –
• In The Bleak Midwinter: Mary Jo Putney –
• Old Flames Dance Card: Cara Elliott –
• A Season For Marriage: Nicola Cornick –
• Miss Finch and the Angel: Jo Beverley –
• Mistletoe Kisses: Anne Gracie --
One of my favorites were the story of Kim, a severely wounded and scarred war hero. He comes home and locks himself into a tower at the family estate. He won’t see anyone and will only speak through the door to his brother. He doesn’t realize just how determined his former fiancé is to drag him back into the world and to make him let her love him.
