Fun. A highly improbable story, on several levels - the time described...doesn't match any actual history I can think of. Leaving aside the question of magic, though that's handled quite nicely (basically, no viewpoint character has any idea, though they can take advantage of magic when it happens). Serious case of I-am-not-worthy, more on Kane's side than Jenna's - and why is the book Fire Hawk? Lots of Hawk, no fire that I noticed. Hmm. Not recognizing Tal, the coincidence of the warlord (not so much of a coincidence, though, with Tal's interference - though Kane's existence makes it still a bit unlikely). The...well. Lots of things, big and small. But the characters were pretty good - not up to Justine Davis' best, but pretty good - and the direct interactions were good too. Fun, far from her best but quite readable. I liked the middle book in the series better (Heart of the Hawk, the Old West one); now I need to find the first book in the series (Wild Hawk, the contemporary one). This series ran backward in time.
