This book had... second chance romance! Best friends to lovers! Single mom!
What guy would say no to his friend who he was previous interested in when she asks him to sleep with him? After years apart they are brought back together. It had sweetness, some funny times. You kinda wanted to knock the main guy in the head. Worth the read!
This story is full of humor, romance and swearing. The plot was good and the characters were enjoyable.
Many thanks to LAN Fiction LLC and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Although this one was cute and lovey and had some great moments, I don't know if it stands out in the sea of cute and lovely romances. Maybe if I had read this closer to when it came out, it would have felt adorable and I would have loved it.
BUT romance, especially this whole "virgin" sub genre, is just not my cup of tea - so although it didn't work well for me, if you love this kind of story - definitely give this one a try. The writing is good and the characters and story were good, just not for me.
Deak Breakers was a sweet, simple book but predictable and somewhat lacking. I guess it's just not my cup of tea but if you're looking for a fun, light romance, you'll like this one.
A cute, fun friends-to-lovers-to-awkward-to-lovers romance. This was an easy enough read. The issues feel real, the problems aren't all that surprising, but the love is sweet and I just had to see how redemption would be had.
It was cute and I enjoyed reading it but it was not sticking out, I felt like I had read it before. I would have liked more depth.
I liked the writing and I will read more from this author.
Interesting book with an attempt at tackling adult themes. The writing was a bit distracting at times. Someone needs a good editor.
This sweet feel good story is heartwarmingly comfortable and a romantic page turner! I loved reading and following along the characters sweet love story! I loved this book!

Yes, I'm more than half way done with this book, but I can't.
I think this is what happened last time I tried to read this, now that I'm remembering it.
The whole "I got you pregnant but I never told you" trope in this book is tired. Sometimes it's well done, and that's fine, but this just isn't. It's cliche and I don't even like the characters enough to care.
The dialogue in this book is stunted.
I don't care about either of the characters.
And it's just cliche after cliche. Maybe I've read too many "friends-into-lovers" books in a row at this point, and the last one I read was just TOO. GOOD. But I just can't with this book, and I'm not going to keep wasting my time on it.
I wished this went a little deeper. I didn't really get to know who they were beside the man slut and good girl. Their relationship was superficial & we don't get to see them fall in love or hurt over their time apart and secrets. There are some really sweet moments in this book and some very funny ones as well. It is a cute quick read.
DEAL BREAKERS - Laura Lee
FRIENDS TO LOVERS - 3 stars
Plot - 4 stars - Riley and Devyn met at the beginning of their college years and became best friends. Even though they are occasionally attracted to each other sexually, they both value the friendship and want to keep it at that. However, when Devyn wants to lose her V-card senior year, she asks the experienced Riley to help her out. Of course, it's hot and steamy and totally overwhelmed them both. Fast forward to 5 years later when they meet up again. Their situations have changed, but the chemistry between them hasn't, and Devyn has some big news that she hasn't shared.
Writing - 3.5 stars - Although the story started out nicely with some excerpts from Riley's and Devyn's college years, I wished there was a little more more time to get to know the characters better before they jumped into bed together. That being said, the story heated up nicely when they got together again 5 years later. It moved forward nicely and was very easy to read. I really wanted to know what would happen next.
Characters - 2.5 stars - Besides the fact that we didn't get to know the characters as much as I would have liked through the beginning, they became much clearer as adults. Riley is the aeronautics star who has lived life on his own terms. He's studied hard and played hard, but he still has a soft spot for Devyn, not only as the best lover he ever had, but as a best friend as well. His only flaw is that he wasn't ready for a serious relationship as soon as Devyn was. I felt much less enamored of Devyn, mostly because of the decision she made about not telling Riley. She's tough and strong and has been an awesome single mother, but the huge unfairness of not telling Riley about her pregnancy detracts from her positives. And somehow she's twisted it all around in her head that he was at fault for not saying "I love you" back to her 5 years ago and for not answering her calls.
Title - 3.5 stars - The "deal" refers to the fact that they both agreed to have sex just the one time, at Devyn's request. But both of them had stronger feelings for each other than they wanted to admit, either to each other or even to themselves. They both wanted more from their relationship, but they didn't want to break the "deal" they had made.
Cover - 3.5 stars - Cute cover, with a friendly hug, indicating their friendship but possibly something more.
Overview - 3 stars - As it turns out, this was a nice introduction to this new-to-me author. Lee writes with a nice and easy style, and the story moved forward quickly. Actually, it moved a little too quickly from time to time, with less back story than I would have liked. But there were 2 glaring problems that I found troubling. First, and biggest, was the fact that Devyn didn't share her pregnancy with Riley, not even until she was forced to when he figured it out. That's such a low-down and unfair thing to do to a guy, especially when they were best friends. It's not like he was ever a bad guy or ever lead her to believe that he wouldn't step up. And his amazingly easy acceptance of losing the first 5 years of his son's life (and the same with his parents) didn't seem realistic. My other problem was with Nathan's potty mouth. Sure, it made me laugh the first time he repeated his uncle's swears. Coming from a 4-year-old it's kind of amusing. But no one really made any effort to change--neither Uncle Drew nor Devyn nor anyone else. It was almost considered a good thing--so Drew would put money in the college-fund jar. What happens when Nathan says dickweed or douchebag when he's at school or to his friends' parents or something? Really, it wasn't particularly cute, just irresponsible. All that being said, I enjoyed this book and it read very quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I really enjoyed the book, it has everything I love in a novel from start to finish. I can’t wait to read what the author has planned next!
I tried to love this book. I really did. I just couldn't do it. This book was just too cliche and the writing is poorly done.
This book was just meh...I felt a lot of it was just a cliche and very familiar compared to other books out there today. I really just didn't connect with the characters in the book and the way they spoke to each other. That is my hard rule in reading...I cannot do the immature conversation between characters.
