The fourth novel in Cobley's Humanity's Fire universe. It's a stand-alone, and pretty much works as such. However, I wonder if I might have got more out of it if I'd read the original trilogy (which starts with "The Seeds of Earth"). I'd heard very good things about the series, but it didn't quite click for me - I think I'm just more interested in the novels/stories that fall into the "space opera" and "space fantasy" sub-genres (think Star Wars, WH40k, etc.).

An interesting novel, though, and I quite liked Cobley's writing.
