A play on the "special powers main character" trope done extremely well! Likable characters, well devised world, driving plot - this is such a success as an introduction to a series. An excellent blend of fantasy/magical elements in a sci fi, tech, and dystopian setting. It is complete on it's own (nothing I hate more than a giant cliffhanger or a first book that reads like a lengthy prologue) as well as providing a compelling lead in to the series as a whole. I eagerly await the next installment!

Disclosure: I received this book as an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.

An interesting novel of formation, of science fiction and dystopic genre, set in a future where the masters of the earth are those who possess species of superpowers. The protagonist, who grows up in a village as the daughter of the innkeepers, thinks she is somehow different from her peers, but does not know how much and why. Only the arrival from the city of a powerful and arrogant commander will somehow reveal the mystery, catapulting the girl into a world bigger than her, and for which she is not ready.
An amusing reading, not particularly demanding and with a little too many logical leaps: apparently the author has been more involved in the spectacle of the events than in their literary design.

I unfortunately was not able to read this book. I was excited when ever I had chosen to download or pick this book up on Netgalley. However, time moves by so quickly and I never got to read it.
