Love Struck is one unforgettable read. No reader should miss this amazing story. I Couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting.
Highly Recommend it to all.
I thought this was a sweet romance when I read it a few years ago, but it wasn't one of my favorites by Laurelin Paige—I hadn't read much by Kayti McGee then and still haven't. It was a tad overwritten for what it offered and felt very different from the first book in this series, Miss Match.
Been going through my old netgalley requests and seeing what I have forgotten to give a review to and what I still need to read. I don't recall requesting this book or why and reading the synopsis present me doesn't have the same interest in this title as past me did.
I read this book with a smile on my face that I couldn't get rid of if I tried. I love the chemistry between the main characters and really enjoyed this sexy, sweet story.
Sorry I was unable to review this because it went to archive before I could download and read this. But with these authors I am sure it would have been a great read. I just wish i would have been able to read it. So sorry that i missed it!
LOVE STRUCK - Laurelin McGee
#2 in the Miss Match romance series
MORE THAN THE MUSIC - 5 stars
Plot - 5 stars - After a tragedy, Lacy can't seem to find her songwriting muse. She searches for support and find an online songwriting group and becomes friendly with a guy there who is very supportive. At the same time, she has an unexpected chance to go on tour for the first time as opener for a folk group she likes. When she also meets a kindred spirit there, she's confused about her feelings.
Writing - 5 stars - McGee grabbed me right from the beginning. She sets us up with a brief prologue, then we jump into the story and find ourselves learning so much about Lacy that we immediately get into her head and into her heart, worrying right along with her. She built wonderful characters that I was definitely rooting for throughout. And the complicated love triangle was amusing, clever, and totally frustrating, in a good way.
Characters - 5 stars - I totally loved Lacy and suffered along with her as she struggled to survive her tragedy as well as her writer's block. She's down-to-earth, talented, and full of life despite her current problems. I think I'd totally want to hang out with her in real life. Eli is also a well-built character. He's got an inner strength that comes out in his songs, plus he's also multi-talented but with a strong vulnerability and fear of pushing himself too hard. Both seem so realistic and everyday, but I still couldn't wait to read more about them. Jax intrigued me, and I thought he was an excellent counterpoint to Eli, adding more angst to the story and a bit of mystery. Abby is cute and funny, just like she was in the first book of this series. It was fun to see her and Blake's relationship from her sister's point of view.
Title - 3.5 stars - I think I would have preferred it to have more of a musical theme to it, which would definitely have attracted my attention.
Cover - 3.5 stars - A sweet embrace with a hot guy and a beautiful girl. It definitely sets the stage, although it's fairly typical for this genre.
Overview - 5 stars - This was an excellent romance, with quite a bit more body to it than most. The characters were the real stars for me. I loved both of them and could really understand their feelings and their motivations. Lacy has been emotionally shut down since the death of her fiance, so it made sense that she'd also suffer from writer's block. Eli is hot and sexy, but he's also shy and hides behind his music. Their connection was sweet and hot and they really fit together perfectly--in interests, in styles, and in an emotional sense. I loved their stories and found them very appealing. The secondary stories of Abby's wedding and the band's relationship issues added a lot of interest as well. Really a great book, and I look forward to more from this author.
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
A fun read that only bothered me a little bit. So Eli is kind of awesome and Lacy has her moments. The two have been connecting online and then end up on tour together. The sparks fly before they realize that they're each other's penpals and, of course, drama ensues. Eli is great with Lacy, in either form. He's supportive of her and they have the exact same interests. Lacy however, is a little more wishy-washy and I wish she had just been open when she thought she knew who her online guy was. The back and forth was kind of annoying.
Overall, a fun read that tugged at my heart strings with a hint of heat.
Sorry I was not able to read you book but it went to archive before I could get to it. Sorry once again.
WHY I READ IT:
I’ve been waiting for Lacy’s story since I started the series. There was no way I wasn’t going to read this book, especially after liking Mistaken so much.
REVIEW:
I couldn’t wait to get to this book because – truthfully – out of this entire series, this one sounded the best to me. And it was shaping up to be absolutely amazing until I got maybe about a third-ish into the story. That’s when things started to unravel just a little bit.
Listen, I adore the concept of this story: two people having an online relationship, with that relationship heading into friendship-to-love territory fast. I also love the idea behind two musicians falling in love while touring together. The interesting thing about this story is that Lacy and Eli are online friends with anonymous identities that have arranged to meet for the first time in the future, which works out to be after their tour is over. They fall in love while on tour, but they don’t realize that they are also falling in love online, anonymously, at the same time. Here is where the complications and confusion come into play.
Are they cheating on each other…with each other? I mean, is this a love triangle? (I wish I was reading this book along with someone else because this one is certainly discussable and I think this would have been tons of fun to break down and talk about.)
I love Lacy and Eli together. They’re both great characters. This book was shaping up to really be something that made me excited — until Lacy and Eli became sort-of like two different couples. I really could probably overlook this and enjoy the story since I know how everything ends up – but the thing is that it created drama and tension and confusion while I was reading. Everything worked out in the end, but there was a big chunk of the book where I selfishly wanted Lacy and Eli to figure out how to be one couple, in their real life and not online, and just get together already.
There is a marriage side plot in the story and it took up a surprising part of the page space. It was probably needed because it gave Lacy some time to grow into herself and think things through, plus it tied up some loose ends from earlier in the series. It also provided humor. But it really just distracted me from the romance which was the main plot point. I wanted more of Lacy and Eli.
Overall, I liked Love Struck more than Miss Match and less than Mistaken. It looks like this series may be complete, so I don’t think there will be any more pieces of the story to come in the future, which makes me a little sad. I could technically see where these authors could make future installments based on other characters, but I don’t see any indication of that happening. I think that’s probably just wishful thinking on my part.
SERIES FINAL THOUGHTS:
I liked the Miss Match series – I think it was a great choice for a quick, fun series to read that didn’t cause me any stress. This is the reason that I picked up the first book and the reason that I continued with the series to completion. And I think I would pick up these books for rereads just on their sheer readability. I really wish each there was an audiobook option for each installment, but as it stands at this moment, only the first book has an audiobook format available. I’d 100% take advantage of the audiobook formats if they were available for this series. Also, I think the covers are super cute and a great draw for readers; they’re one of the main reasons that I chose this series to binge-read when I was looking for something to lose myself in a few days ago. I want more easy-to-read series like these, please!
