Mark Lingane did a good job creating a dystopian world that had two sets of people with different mindsets clashing.

However, while the story started out quick paced, I felt like it began to slow down a little bit too much after a few chapters and that's where I started to lose interest.

This story follows an orphaned book trying to make his way to a special Academy, all the while being chased by some kind of cyborg-humans in a world where nuclear war has destroyed a majority of the population.

This book got off to a slightly rocky start for me. I feel like, certainly in the first chapter or two, the writing was a bit over the top with description and speech in a way I associate with writing that isn’t at its peak. I have a big thing about dialogue, and dialogue feeling real when I read it and for the most part I feel like the dialogue in this novel was too much, and people wouldn’t really speak like that to one another.

The cyborg things were scary, though Seb’s interactions with them left me intrigued. The adventure did keep me on edge a bit and I did want everyone to end up at their destination safe and sound so I obviously cared about the characters eventually.

I would say this book at times felt more middle-grade than teenage fiction. The summary of the book on Goodreads states that it’s for a teenage audience but the main character is only around 13 so it feels a bit younger to me.
