Ramona and Sam created the band, April and Rain. Tom soon joins them. They each live their own unassuming lives and just want to enjoy their music. The three friends bond and learn from each other as they get through high school, meet their goals and make their future plans. Not everyone understands them but they understand each other and are true friends unconditionally.
Likes/dislikes: The author shows an authentic portrayal of dyslexia. The high school band and unconditional best friends are refreshing. The tidbits of wisdom from Ramona are helpful to her friends.
Mature Content: PG for kissing.
Language: R for 25 swears and 7 f-words.
Violence: Pg for bullying.
Ethnicity: falls to white.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are interesting and well written, the imagery is excellent and I really like the author's writing style. The characters (Ramona, Sam and Tom) compliment each other well while still being their own person.
The book starts out with the three main characters applying for an arts school. While they're in the waiting room, Ramona introduces herself to Tom and decides that he needs to be in a band with her and her best friend, Sam. He agrees and their lives get better and more exciting from there.
They learn a lot about themselves and what they want in life through their friendship and the music and art that the three of them create. My favorite thing about them is how accepting they are of each other and those around them. I like that each character knows who they are and what they believe in. There are some unconventional themes in the book, but they work for the characters.
If there was a sequel, I would read it in a heart beat. I got this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.

We purchased this book for our library. It has been checked out a few times by teen patrons who seemed to enjoy it.

Unfortunately this book has gone in my DNF pile. It just wasn't engaging me like it would have years ago when I first requested it. My reading tastes have changed a lot over the years as I've gotten older and unfortunately some of the books requested years ago have been affected by my reading tastes and the fact that a lot of books for younger audiences haven't been grasping my attention as of late. I thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Bandmates Sam and Ramona are in love with each other, but neither has got around to telling the other that yet. Then new boy Tom joins their band and Ramona falls in love with him - but she still loves Sam too. How can they work this out?
Oh wow oh wow oh wow, ace representation again, an AMAZING love triangle, and three incredibly likeable main characters. This completely blew me away. I adored the way the central trio actually talk through things, I liked the relationships they had with their parents, and overall this stands out as pretty close to being unique in several ways.

I finally got around to this and I am so confused and sad. I had such high hopes because friends turned lovers PLUS MUSIC? must be a plus. No, it wasn't. This just dragged and I didn't click to the characters at all

DNF - The writing style just wasn't for me, much as the idea appealed.

I literally had to make myself finish this book, the story nor the characters were appealing to me.

Although there are some good aspects in this book I really can't deny that this is like my worst nightmare.
This is the first novel I read about Laura Nowlin although I seen her name before and was planning to read her other book. I really like her writing, and sadly that is the only thing I can say about this novel. Oh and I appreciated the book's effort to explore asexuality although it failed miserably. The love triangle was just.. a mess.
It really dragged, it keeps readers reading because it will make you believe that there will be like a big revelation or something important will happen but sadly, that didn't happen at all. I was bored and I was just pissed because the girl is just annoying and the other guys came out as crybois instead of swoony and charming. I did not like anyone at all. Plus, this book is filled with such music snobbery that it makes me wanna throw it.

Ramona and Sam are band mates are best friends. Ramona is in love with Sam, but afraid to ruin their friendship, she keeps her feelings secret. When she meets Tom, she is convinced that he should be the third member of the band, and her new boyfriend.
Sam has long held his feelings for Ramona secret, but when she starts dating Tom he can’t help but wonder if his chance with Ramona is gone forever.
Tom struggles with his own feelings. He loves Ramona, but he doesn’t have any sexual desire for her, or for anyone that is.
A refreshing romantic triangle that is modern and realistic
