Ace, a doctor and owner of Exodus Cryonics, invites his old school friends to Colorado to see his facility. Willy, an alcoholic is interested in being frozen until something can be done about his condition. He works with another doctor to train his brain to be a winning football player, Toby Ward. When Toby gives signals that he is really Willy, Donnie and Goody believe. When Donnie’s wife, Bev, dies, he loses the will to live. He tells Ace he wants to end his life. Mack, an arms dealer, owes $50K to Rudy, a Vegas loan shark. Rudy sends enforcers but Mack is elusive.
The story is fast paced, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. Mack reminds me of many action heroes. There is a lot of action and deceit. This book was all over the place and I loved it all. I had no idea what to expect by the book title. If you like action and adventure with a bit of mystery thrown in, you may enjoy reading this book.
Wow. The plot was pretty good, but the characters were terrible. I think the only character in the whole book that I liked and was a decent human being was Chief--and he was a dog! The main characters were supposedly somewhat elderly men, but they were the most immature group of people ever and the few women were just as bad. Characters are important to me, so I didn't find this a particularly enjoyable read, but if you like thrillers, you might enjoy this.
This story was filled with suspense, action, and adventure. It felt like there were two plots with two of the characters, but I managed to pull it all together and stay intrigued.
Many thanks to Crossroad Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
The premise of the story had merit but the characters lacked substance. I usually like medical suspense thrillers but this one did not work for me.
