Wow! I just finished this book (review copy via NetGalley) and all I can say is "Wow! Wow! Wow!" It's a rollicking ride from the first sentence to last period!
As a fan of Ms. Blackstock's work, I expected a well-written suspense, but this one really stayed with me! The plot sucks you in immediately and leaves you on the edge of your seat throughout. Christian suspense is probably my favorite genre, and If I Run does not disappoint! There are so many plot twists AND two stories in one, really (without giving away too much, the main character becomes involved in another mystery, while trying to solve her own).
The "good guys" are likable and the "bad guys" really are baddies (boo hiss). Though the book does not end on a traditional cliff-hanger, it's ties up one plotline, while leaving the other unresolved. Because it doesn't feel like it ends right in the middle of the action, this is forgivable, and it totally works, because I *so* want to read the s second book the instant it comes out!!
And, because it's Christian fiction, there are faith-affirming messages sprinkled throughout, and though a suspense novel with some unsavory elements to it (murder, etc....), nothing graphic takes place "on camera" so to speak, and no cringe-worthy language.
Chalk up another win for Terri Blackstock!
If I Run (If I Run Series) (Kindle Edition)
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Coincidentally, I just had finished reading a book by another author that had the exact same plot!! I guess it's hard to come up with new ideas sometimes. Overall this is a fairly good book, but not great.
A mystery within a mystery. The main mystery and story line hasn't finished by the end of the book. Which thankfully I was prepared for as I watched an interview with the Author who explained the three book series is like a puzzle. With even the covers fitting together like a puzzle, to make a picture. Each book has a story inside the ongoing, main storyline.
I enjoyed the book and was glad to read a book about 1. different kinds of PTSD. (Which I suffer from.) And 2. Wasn't a fall in love in two days or three weeks kind of story line. I like how Terri is handling the Hero and Heroine in this series!
I was given this book by Net Galley in return for my honest review, which I have given here.
I really did enjoy this book but found some parts to be rushed. I also found a couple errors with a name which made me think I missed something. I think the wrong name was just inserted wrong twice and it bothered me.I didn't realize this was part of a trilogy so it ends in a major cliffhanger. It's pretty good though and captured my attention from the first page.
