Unfortunately, I didn't realize this was a second book in a series. Because of this, I was a bit lost and it's hard for me to rate it. I don't think it would be fair to do so with this knowledge but I can give some feedback on writing style, plot, and development.
I do love a retelling, so this always intrigues me. And it's also historical in it's background, so that's always fun. Through in some drama, mystery, and a bit of magic and it made for a fun read.
Kate was an ok character, though annoying at times.
The plot moved well enough. The writing style had a good cadence.
I will say it left me wanting to go back and read the first book, so I could actually know what was going on. I'd like to see how Kate's journey started.
Cinderella's Shoes by Shonna Slayton was cute. I loved Cinderella's Dress a lot more but this was a cute follow up to the first book. World War II is over. It has been over for a few years but Kate's father never returned home. He has been declared missing in action. Kate won't give up on her father. She believes that he is still alive.
This follow up to Cinderella's Dress follows Kate as she grows into an amazing woman. Kate really wants to find out more about her heritage. She researches a lot about the Polish Cinderella. I really enjoyed these books because as much as they mention Cinderella, they story is not consumed with Cinderella's dress or shoes. Instead we get to see the real day to day life of Kate. This is what I really liked.
I think Slayton did a great job with the writing and the research of this book. It definitely created a fun and interesting read. If you want a fun very sweet read definitely check out this book. I really enjoyed it.
