An enchanting, atmospheric story.
Many thanks to Snow Beach Publications Ltd and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
From Mauritius to London and back, and in between a life that transforms the Indian-born child Ray Jack (in honor of Union Jack) Patel into Dr. Jack McDorry, respected ophthalmologist.
A life of success, apparently without shadows, if not the vice of betting on horses - tolerated with great indulgence by the family. When, however, on the occasion of his 65th birthday, one of his daughters gives him a book about betting, the figure of Babette resurfaces from the past and the peaceful life of the doctor risks being shattered forever. But Mauritius is magnificent not only for its landscapes: there is a magic in the air that makes even human souls give their best.
Not a masterpiece, but a pleasant reading that one ends with some regret.

This is the second book in the Mauritius Migrants series. Even though I enjoyed getting to know about the island of Mauritius, this book was not for me. The plot was erratic at times and predictable. The characters were not well fleshed out so I was lost to the motivation for their actions. I will not be recommending this novel.
