Loch and her crew have their work cut out this time. The Ancients are coming back! They have gotten a number of nobles to wear Paladin bands that enslave the wearer and makes them follow their orders. Loch and crew keep getting chased, attacked, and on the run, but they are running for a goal. And when the big climax comes, the big reveal is a real con job on multiple levels that improvisation just makes more fun. A fitting conclusion to this trilogy.

A satisfying conclusion to a fun fantasy series, which has always been basically like Firefly meets High Fantasy. This book, like its direct predecessor, was a tad less tightly plotted as the first, but it was still a lot of fun. Caper indeed! Anybody who liked the first two installments will definitely like this one.
I'll miss this cast of characters, though I wish that they'd all had an equal amount of page time. I did love seeing Ululenia's dark side, and Desidora embracing herself a bit more. And what happened with Ghylspwr!!! But I need more of the rest.
Maybe Weekes will write another book where the team reunites, like 10 years later.
