Another great Laurie McBain book that the publisher threw an updated cover on. It's a shame she only wrote 7 novels before her Dad died because she had a fantastic writing style that holds up well over the years.

This historical romance is definitely one of the longest I've read in this genre. But I read it all without wanting to stop. When Splendour Falls is my second novel written by the talented Laurie McBain and it won't be the last. This author has a talent for truly bringing out the historical events of the time and a searing romance. I've laughed and shed a few tears with this book, I've rooted for the hero and heroine and shouted at foes. I loved every part of this book, though the sheer number of pages daunted me at first. Great job to the author for a well-written and relatively historical journey filled with adventure, romance, grief, and loss.

This book was looooooong. I definitely picked this book because the cover is beautiful. Cheesy, sure. But beautiful. If I had known it was 700 pages long? I probably would have skipped it. But I didn't so in the end I had to go through the tedious descriptions and many many characters. So much to get to the romance that I didn't enjoy reading.
