I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
DNF
Monica Murphy is a hit or miss author for me. Some of her work, I absolutely adore and fall in love the first time I read it. Yet other times, I find myself bored and DNF-ing the story, which is what happened here. The story felt like it was dragging out and while it definitely tackled tough topics, something about the characters and the romance felt off. I couldn't connect and all character interactions felt forced. This story was definitely a miss for me.
Never Tear Us Apart is the first book in the adult contemporary romance Never series by Monica Murphy. I love Monica Murphy's books, and Never Tear Us Apart was no exception, though it was quite a bit darker than I was expecting. It wasn't my favorite book I have read of hers, but I did still enjoy it.
In Never Tear Us Apart we meet our main characters Katie and Ethan. The book is told in alternating past and present chapters and it also it switches between the two main characters. Sometimes this is a very powerful tool but I will admit that a couple of times I was a little confused as to where things fit on the overall timeline. Never Tear Us Apart does deal with some difficult topics, such as abuse, so be warned about that in case it is a trigger for you, but Monica Murphy does a great job handling these dark and tough topics with care.
Overall, I enjoyed this romance. I don't want to spoil the plot, so I won't go into specifics, but this story surprised me in many ways. I liked it, but go into it prepared that it is a heavier book that I was used to from this author.
I've enjoyed Monica Murphy's books in the past. This one was just ok for me. It didn't love it, though I do think I'll read the next one.
