If you're a fan of the Happy Herbivore, you'll be glad to have this addition for your library. As usual, the recipes are easy to follow and taste very good.
As a big fan of Happy Herbivore and subscriber to Meal Mentor, I was so excited to read this book focusing on holiday recipes because, let's face it, we find the holidays as a time (and excuse) to have a free-for all when it comes to food. Lindsay Nixon is on point as usual with healthy, easy-to-make recipes that are healthy and satisfying and that really can fool your family and friends into, well, eating healthy and loving it!
True to Happy Herbivore style, the recipes have short lists of ingredients which you don't have to travel to specialty stores to purchase.
As a cookbook collector and most importantly reader, (I read, and re-read my collection of cookbooks over and over, cover to cover) I love the introduction of this book where Lindsay gives an inside look at her own culinary journey, from trying to cook, to learning to cook, to loving to cook.. "For me, cooking is a celebration of live and love," says Lindsay. This should set the reader and future cook at ease, cooking doesn't come to everyone as easy as we think.
As a planner and someone who carries around a notebook two days or more before an event/gathering and has been known to still have that notebook in my hand when guests arrive, I can appreciate the Pre-Party section of the book where Lindsay gives guidance and details on how to play ahead by writing down a plan that includes prepping food a day or days before to help you get out of the kitchen and spend time with family at your holiday gathering. Yes, we can have it all!
With entertaining advice and color coded icons, this book is great for beginners who really want to share healthy, vegan eating with friends and family all the while continuing a healthy lifestyle and not having to sacrifice ethical and personal choices at the same time.
I highly recommend this book with it's HUGE Thanksgiving menu with all of the traditional dishes, the desserts and drinks for the December holidays and the light and healthy summery concoctions too!
