Coble scores again! Mermaid Moon is a great Christian read. It's contemporary scene makes it easy to follow the story line.

Mallory Davis returns to her hometown after the mysterious death of her father, hoping to uncover the truth behind his passing and reconnect with her lost love, Kevin O'Connor. As Mallory delves deeper into her investigation, she begins receiving threatening messages that put her and her daughter's lives in danger.

While the premise of the book promises an intriguing mystery, the execution falls somewhat flat. The pacing feels inconsistent, with certain parts dragging while others rush through crucial developments. The plot itself has potential, but it lacks the necessary depth and complexity to truly captivate readers.

The characters, particularly Mallory and Kevin, have an interesting history that adds a layer of romance to the story. However, their relationship is not explored as deeply as one would hope, and the resolution feels rushed and predictable. More emphasis on character development and their emotional journey would have made the romantic aspect more satisfying.

One positive aspect of the book is the vivid setting of Downeast Maine. Coble's descriptions bring the coastal town to life, immersing readers in its atmosphere and adding an atmospheric quality to the story.

Overall, Mermaid Moon is an average mystery with a touch of romance. While it has its moments of intrigue and emotional connection, the execution falls short of its potential. Readers seeking a light read with a coastal setting may find enjoyment in this book, but those looking for a gripping mystery or a well-developed romance might be left wanting more.

This suspense story was filled to the brim with mystery, intrigue, high stakes, and a twisty plot. It kept me riveted from the first chapter.

I enjoyed the mother/daughter and father/daughter relationships in this novel. Each held its own special something, and it was fun to see the interactions each had.

It’s not every day that I read a book that features a young blind girl, but it was really great to see this sort of disability highlighted. It was wonderful to watch the girl’s journey with her service dog unfold.

The descriptions of the mermaid jewelry made the gorgeous items really pop off the page for me.

The mystery kept me guessing throughout.

The only negative for me was that the leads moved into the same house together at one point. There were plenty of other options, as other characters pointed out, but they chose to go with the most tempting of them all. Not a smart move. This was especially awkward and inappropriate to me because both parties had a daughter, both of whom were impressionable and could have learned some wrong habits that could lead them down a bad road in life.

Content: strip joint (mentioned), one replacement expletive, marital affairs (mentioned), tobacco

Coble’s second Sunset Cove novel takes readers on another exciting journey. The game of cat and mouse keeps you involved in the intrigue, while the romantic tension between Mallory and Kevin provides just the right counterbalance. It is fun to revisit characters from the first novel of the series and see their stories furthered as well.
Mallory Davis has been estranged from her father for 15 years, ever since she left her hometown. After receiving a mysterious phone call from him and then discovering his death, Mallory and her teenage daughter return to Mermaid Point to find out what happened. Mallory reconnects with her former fiancé, game warden Kevin O’Connor. There are some past hurts to overcome, yet as the two grow closer again, the danger to Mallory rises, and Kevin must protect her at all costs.

Second chances in love, family and forgiveness. The chances to forgive your most pain-inflicting enemy - yourself.

Mallory Davis had once run away from her native place to never look back. She had married a guy (if not the right one), have had a beloved daughter. Became a widow. She fights to survive. Until the last call with her father.
Kevin O’Connor has never forgotten Mallory, his first and complete love, then one whose pregnancy had freed him. The one who left. And now, she is back, even more beautiful than before. And she needs his help.

The best from Colleen Coble yet! Much better than the previous one in this trilogy. Maybe because I can relate to Mallory, Kevin, Carol and the people around. They are real, they make mistakes (some of them serious) and they live under the weight of their mistakes (even if the mistakes are just perceived as one or even false). They struggle under the burden. But they got a chance to redo their lives, even if the "redoing" come in the form of a shake or even a deadlock.

So much is going on there, that you need from time to time to leave this wild ride to have a gulp of free air (a bit of too much, if I am completely honest, as there is too much motives present). But the book as a whole works. It makes you understand that the everyday burden is heavy - but that there might be a way out in forgiveness. And the hardest one to forgive is yourself. But there is a way out., there is maturity and freedom waiting.

I truly enjoyed this read. And now I need to go on the sea holiday or at least I need to buy me some pretty pink tourmaline! Or - which am relly going to do - I am off to read the next installment in this series.

Recommended read.

Another heart pounding book by Colleen Coble! As a fan of Christian suspense fiction, Colleen Coble has never let me down.
Mallory is one of those who is bound by the past and unable to forgive herself for the past. Her father's dying words were for her to find her mother. Malloy's mother had passed away fifteen years previously, so this made no sense to her. A must read!
I was given a free ecopy of this book to ready by the publisher, Thomas Nelson and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
