This author never fails to make me fall in love with her books, and When We Fall is no exception, From the Wallflower no more Piper. To the Brother in love with his sister's best friend; Jace, it is truly the perfect romance. And I will totally admit, I was totally digging it when Jase was squirming, when Piper was sitting on his lap, asking him for a job and room to rent, the internal monolog was excellent!

I loved this book! it totally rocked, the twists, turns and kisses truly made it for me.

When We Fall is a beautifully awe-inspiring romance that only comes to life through utter determination and hard work. This storyline took my heart by force and kept it captive the entire time. There always comes a time when we have to stand up for ourselves and begin constructing our own life. We just have to decide if we have the courage necessary, the hope that we desperately need, and the love that will keep us afloat and happy. Missing any of these essential pieces will leave us floating aimlessly without direction or purpose.

Piper finds herself at the precipice of a major life decision. She can either take a stand and live on her own terms, or remain in her cold, uncaring life as always. This decision will have consequences, and she is sure she can handle them. The benefits will completely outweigh any issues, so she takes the first steps and then finds herself running full speed towards everything that she has wanted for so long. Nothing will deter her. Jase is finally getting his life in some semblance of normal after being released from jail and going crazy with his freedom. He is a serious partner in a tattoo business, and wants to strive to find some semblance of order and normal in his life. When Piper slips past his defenses, she begins her fight for his heart and their future. Will Jase’s insecurities push her away, or will he lose this new beginning at the hands of another?

Jase and Piper pulled on all of my heartstrings. They were so amazing on their own, but together they are such an amazing team. They complement and highlight the other in ways they never imagined. They tried to fight the pull for the other, but true love can’t be defeated without a lasting void in your very soul. I was cheering for them to hold onto each other no matter what happened. Their love was very special and needed to be allowed to bloom and grow. No one should ever have control over love.

Marquita Valentine has crafted a marvelous story that will delight your senses and light your heart aflame. She knows how to touch her reader’s heart, and I look forward to reading more books by her. She is a true romantic at heart that has a gentle spirit, a loving heart, and a soul filled with hope.

Great book!! This was the first book I've read by Marquita Valentine, but definitely won't be the last.

Piper Ross, daughter of police chief and a wealthy southern bell, who have never shown her any love or affection her entire life, just showed it with money to keep up appearances. She has asthma, which her mother couldn't tolerate, and every time she sees her daughter all she does in criticize her. So at the age of 24, she finally rebels and moves out of her parents house into her best friend's, Rowan, place. They are furious because they can't keep tabs on her anymore, so they cut her off--in all ways. They stopped paying for college, her insurance, everything; they disowned her.

When things gets crowded at Rowan and her fiancee's place, Piper turns to Jase, Rowan's brother, for a place to stay. She's been in love with him since she was 14 years old, but has kept it a secret, only his sister knows.

Jase Simmons was falsely accused for attempted manslaughter and was sent to jail for 7 years. The fact that Piper's father arrested him and was promoted to Chief because of the arrest didn't help. When he got out, he partied hard, drink, did drugs, and slept with a lot of women. He always had a soft spot for Piper Ross, but he knows that he wasn't good enough for her; so he played the big brother role. He was always protective over his sister and Piper, especially knowing how she was raised, without any love or affection.

When Piper needs a place to live and a job, knowing that Jase has a huge home, so he has the space she asks him about both options. He knows that he should say NO to both, but somehow he can't.

After her first day of working for him, she offers to take him to dinner, as friends. She figures it's time to let him know how she feels about him, although it doesn't go as planned. He shoots her down, comparing their relationship as "sister and brother" then immediately he starts flirting with the hostess in front of Piper. He feels terrible after that, she has nothing to say to him. She heads to the house, then changes her mind and goes to Rowan's to cry her eyes out. Rowan convinces her to try one more time, Piper isn't for it. She falls asleep in bed with her friend. Jase comes to get her feeling terrible about dinner, he puts her to bed and she talks in her sleep asking for his sister to stay with her. So he climbs in bed with her. Only the following morning, she's not so thrilled about him being there, but this is her chance to make her move to see what will happen. And boy do sparks go off!!

A must read!!

WHEN WE FALL - Marquita Valentine

SWEET AND LOVING - 3.5 stars

Plot - 3.5 stars - Piper is the daughter of the chief of police and his high-society wife. She is privileged but not uppity, and she has always been friendly with Rowan and has always had a crush on Rowan's brother Jase. Rowan and Jase are from the wrong side of town (at least to her parents), so Piper and Jase as a couple is very unlikely and totally against the "rules." But reality is that they match perfectly.

Writing - 3.5 stars - Valentine creates characters that are appealing even with (maybe especially because of) their flaws. Piper is a little too self-deprecating, but she's sweet and nice, which makes the reader want her to be successful in finally getting together with Jase. With Jase, Valentine has built an interesting back story that allows us to see that this is a man who has had some bad breaks, mostly from being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The "bad" guys are a little too bad, but basically the writing was well done and kept my interest throughout.

Characters - 4 stars - I really like the characters that Valentine has introduced in his book. Piper is considered a poor little rich girl, but she seems warm and genuine. As a lonely child of indifferent and even sometimes cruel parents, she has determined that she wants to help others--studying to become a social worker. She struggles with severe asthma. Jase was a player who got caught up in a crime that turned out badly, sending him to jail. He's sexy and very bad-boy, sharing a business of being a tattoo artist. They have an immediate connection. Although Jase tries to slow things down, his deflection doesn't go on too long and soon they are a very nice and believable couple.

Title - 3.5 stars - I suppose this refers to the fact that when some people fall in love, it's sudden and for real, just like with Piper and Jase.

Cover - 3 stars - Typical, ho-hum romance genre cover. It's nice but nothing to really catch the eye.

Overview - 3.5 stars - I liked this story very much. It's really about the characters and how two such different people can mesh into such a strong and loving couple. I thought the highs were a little too high and the bad guys a little too bad, but overall this was a nice story with enough forward motion to keep my interest through and the desire to really root for the successful conclusion for our main characters. This is a new-to-me author, and I will look for more from her.

Thank you so much for being willing to grant me access to this book. Unfortunately, life obligations have prevented me from doing so. If my schedule clears, I plan on reviewing this in the future and will post the review on Amazon and Goodreads. Thank you.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

A heartwarming story that could have used just a touch more follow through. Overall, Jase and Piper were perfect together. She had been in love with her best friend's brother for years. He'd been interested but never thought he was good enough for her. Thankfully, Piper is brave enough to take matters into her own hands and things only get better from there. These two are perfect for one another and I only wished that Valentine had included some more....about her parents, about Jase's history. I guess that stuff may have been mentioned in Rowan's book, but I wish it would have been included here.

Also, I would have liked a little bit more at the end in terms of a resolution with her parents.

Unable to get into this book due to it not taking my fancy. Will look at others by the author to see if they are good.
