A very good middle grade read that explores friendship, grief, guilt and more. It will be very clear to adults what is happening here, but for kids the big reveal towards the end will definitely feel twisty and unexpected.
This book wasn't for me, but I suspect I am not the audience for it.
Quinn’s BFF Kara is moving away, so she joins her and her family on one last road trip before the big move. The family stop at a large Victorian inn that seems creepy and strange. Soon, Kara’s parents and brothers disappear and the girls are determined to find out what is going on. Things get strange as Quinn thinks she’s seen her missing sister Emma, and the girls wonder just what is it that lurks in the basement of the inn.
Really creepy and atmospheric horror middle grade novel. Loved it. Think The Shining goes to the sixth grade.
