I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Second World War was a massive undertaking, and researching it can be a daunting task. In Guts and Glory World War Two, Ben Thompson explores the highlights and the heroes of the conflict, breaking it down into digestible chapters. Each chapter focuses on an event and ends with brief overviews of important people and equipment. Scatter throughout are pictures from the war, as well as illustrations that are reminiscent of graphic novels. Wars are violent and bloody, but Guts and Glory doesn't focus on the blood or embellish the violence, making the book a great intro to World War Two for a young audience.
Readers of the graphic novel series Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales will enjoy this one! It is packed with well researched information and tons of action, and it's tone is humorous. My degree is in history and I have always been interested in the Second World War. I was very surprised at all that I learned while reading the book and was particularly pleased with the equipment breakdown-the names of tanks and planes always confused me. Guts and Glory: World War Two wasn't easy to put down and I was blown away by the bravery and valor exhibit by the men and women in the Second World War.
