Although I enjoyed reading about a young woman's journey from anger to accomplishment, it is not one that is likely to stay with me. Tara Marconi packs up her life in Pennsylvania for one on the Rock in Alaska. It's a harsh change, but good for her as she works through her anger. It's worth reading for the Alaska setting. 3.5/5.

Not particularly enjoyable. Just couldn't engage with the main character, and it was a challenge to feel committed enough to make it through to the end.

I know a woman who works for a seafood company and spends her summers working on a remote island in Alaska. She loves it and she's the reason I read this book. It is a story of learning to make your own way and learning what home really is. On my visits to southeastern Alaska, I've been amazed at the number of tough women I've met, women who could easily exemplify Tara.

Feisty Tara Marconi is full of anger and boxing is her outlet. After her mother’s sudden death and a bitter fight with her father even boxing doesn’t help. On a tip from her cousin she leaves Philadelphia for a job on a fish hatchery in Port Angel, Alaska, hoping the hard work and tough conditions will bring her peace.
A very different coming of age story. Interesting but jammed with details about the fishing industry.

This is a wonderful book. It was a bit slow for me in the beginning but then I could not put it down. The Alaskan Laundry is an excellent coming of age tale, You will fall in love with the characters.
