The book did not really work for me. I DNF'ed it. I wasn’t able to connect with any of the many characters in the book and I found myself putting down the book a lot because it was never really catching my attention.
This is a series that I have read Books 2-4 previously and each one features a different boy band member and their quest for love and finding their perfect girlfriend and a HEA for now as they are only teens to early adults and being musicians you can't expect them to settle at this young age straightaway. A different author also writes each book. Book #5 Abby and the Cute One is written by Erin Butler and features the youngest member of the band, Nathan, he is also the only one not attached and has been given strict orders to act carefree and have no serious romantic entanglements as if he does then the band's ratings go down and it's bye, bye as NSYNC sings. While out one night, Nathan is cooling off and comes across a young female on his walk. She is carefree, happy, and reminds him of home and more joyful time. He also finds himself chatting to her more freely, and for the first time in a long time, he can be himself ultimately with no walls up. Abby is in town to audition for the opening act of a new concert which Nathan's band is headlining. When she turns up to the audition, Nathan is sick as he's stuck between two worlds as he wants her but knows if she comes on the tour, he can't date her. This book follows the Yes/No and secret relationship between Nathan and Abby, and I did like this story but at times wanted to shake Nathan and be like, let the others know they can help you as it doesn't matter what the manager says, he wouldn't have a job if it weren't for you guys. I am now looking forward to going back and reading Book #1 so that I can complete the Backstage Pass Series.
I'm not a boy band kind of person, or at least not since New Kids on the Block. Hehehe... So I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this book before I picked it up: would my lack of boy band love mean this would sour my experience? Well, I'm here to tell you that quickly after picking it up, I couldn't wait to dive back in at every chance. I even stayed up past my bedtime to read this cute romance with more substance than I expected initially. This book explores not only young love, but also the pressure that young stars feel and the way that there life becomes anything but normal. How PR people force performers into fake relationships that they say are needed to portray a certain image, even if it means sublimating their true selves and feelings, even if it means that they feel pressured to keep up appearances or risk losing everything. It gave me more insight than I had before about celebrity culture and how harsh it can be behind the scenes. It also spoke about how rabid fans mean that a trip to the market that would be completely normal for anyone else, is no longer possible most of the time, giving me new insight into why musicians, like Kurt Cobain, would've felt like the fame was too much to handle. And of course, the romance was too cute an I loved a lot of the songs that Abby did covers of. Wish I could hear her voice IRL
I honestly loved this book.
I wasn't sure what I was going to think of it.
But the more I got into it, the more I began to love it.
It's got some of the best character's. Ones that are well written, and so dimensional..
It was just an amazing story
Thank you so much for being willing to grant me access to this book. Unfortunately, life obligations have prevented me from doing so. If my schedule clears, I plan on reviewing this in the future and will post the review on Amazon and Goodreads. Thank you.
