The Best of Me was a cute contemporary romance, and I enjoyed it. There were some things that were glossed over that I felt needed more space, though. And I wasn't completely immersed in the characters and their story.
The writing is good, and there's a lot of chemistry between the main characters. Of course, Briarwood is the perfect setting - and I loved seeing the characters I had met before show up here as well.
Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
A really cute story with a whole lot of heart. Jane's inability to trust other people was a little annoying at times, but the fact that she found this support system that is willing to help her and stand up for her, no questions asked, is a huge deal. And Press? He has gone through a lot since his father's death, but the fact that he was able to pick himself up and get back on track, under his own terms, shows a lot about who he is. Add in that he was able to go slowly with Jane and move at a pace that she felt comfortable with and it's no wonder she fell for him...I know I did.
And Andy? What a gem! Such a cute kid.
I do wish there had been a little more closure in terms of Griff (maybe one more short scene or even a sentence about where he was) but I understand that this wasn't about him.
I'm looking forward to more Briarwood...but hopefully we can stay out of the pastry kitchen this time...all I wanted was cookies while I was reading this!
