Wasn't as enjoyable as some of her other books that I have read. Based in the 1940's on the west coast of Ireland. It began well with a good build up to the story but began to wane as the story moved on. It all felt very bleak and desolate and there didn't seem to be an awful lot of happiness within the story. Have enjoyed other books of hers much more than this one.
I loved the characters- the ones who worked in the castle and the ones above stairs. I could picture the coast through the windows and was desperate to know how this would end.
A real family saga with a few surprises along the way. I loved her writing style and I'm now keen to read more.
This is the first book I’ve read by Nadine Dorries, who is more well known as a politician, so I didn’t know quite what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how well written this beautiful story is.
I was drawn into the story from the very first page as it took me on a rollercoaster ride of a journey that had me enthralled throughout.
This may have been the first book I’ve read by Nadine Dorries, but it definitely won’t be my last. Just goes to show that you can’t always judge a book by the personal opinion you have of the author or their politics.
A lovely, heartwarming read that I would recommend.
