I was very interested in this title; however, it is far too broad & easy to lose interest just trying to keep up with the author's train of thoughts. I think the topic deserves attention and I appreciate the author's passion, it would just be better condensed, particularly for those not in the field!

An interesting and timely read. There is a lot of discussion about preschools going back to the play model instead of the academic model that many have so it is good to read a book that talks about why it is important.

Young children are not problems to be solved or vessels to be filled. They are unfinished, growing people who are in the process of learning to be part of society as a human.

What they need: genuine care and kindness to support them. What they do not need: Drill and pressure to learn academics. What they need: A reason to learn. A fostered desire to learn.

The author does not attack preschool professionals, acknowleding that they face challenges in instructing and guiding the very young. Further acknowleding that these youngest students cannot alwaus express what it is they need, or understand why communication has broken down. They are not emotionally regulated by virtue of age. And yet, academic benchmarks creep ever lower into younger and younger settings, putting pressure for Preschool to be the new Kindergarten, and Kindergarten, the new first grade.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in return for a fair and honest review.
