First off, whoops. This seems to have been missed from being read for far too many years.... I had benn go back to all the older stuff and read it fast. Good thing I have been a lot slower at picking up any other ARC's. I have a mountain to read first lol.
This was a good story. Lowell is basically a good girl and keeps herself in check even when she was a little girl whilst her mother created all the drama. Now 22 years old, she is keeping her mother happy and is an up and coming Scarlett, but one drunken incident caught on camera could loose her everything.
Kyle was always a bit of a wild child, especially after the death of his mother when he was seven. He hated when his father remarried and did not like Lowells mother and found Lowell to be a pain in the butt, especially as she used to tell his father when he had done something naughty.
Finally after his father had cut him off from his trust fund, did Kyle finally find he had to grow up, but with very little to fall back on, he found himself working at an escort service and often having physical relations with woman who paid for him.
When Lowell needs help with her image, she decides to use an escort service and it is a surprise to both of them when they meet on her doorstep. But it would seem that it is beneficial for both of them. Kyle is to be paid well and Lowell finds that Kyle is actually very good with the media and public relations.
Of course they fall in love and there is something that tries to split them up and keep them apart, but ultimately they cannot be without each other and they make their worlds that much easier by supporting each others backs and dreams.
I really enjoyed this book. It had a little spice and a little taboo, but on the whole it was just a well written book with strong characters.
The intriguing blurb got me so I had high expectations.
Lowell, a rising star, suffers a (drunken and disorderly) meltdown after she gets the dreaded "you're too fat" critique. A viral video later, she is desperate to salvage her good girl reputation and career. So she decides a distraction in the form of a boyfriend just might do the trick...the catch she doesn't have one...enter Kyle...a "high-class" escort who jumps at the chance to do this one lucrative deal and move on to a more normal life. The catch...he is her ex-step brother. A trust fund brat until he was cut off for his indolence and indiscretions hence the paid gigolo gig.
Therein lies the rub...Kyle starts off pretty ...offensive....spoiled, selling his body instead of doing an honest days work, etc. Not really hero material...but then again, maybe therein lies the attraction...a desperate call for "the love of a good woman"....yeah like that never goes wrong! Granted there is some character development within the story but I felt it was a little too quick and a big jump from where he was to where he ended up in a very short span of time.
Then there was Lowell’s "scandalous" behavior...which in this day and age seems pretty tame...TMZ anyone? Lowell was likable but I did want to Gibbs slap her couple of times...but probably her youth showing.
Supporting characters were more caricature props than substantial (read: real) people. All in all a sweet and easy read. Not earth shattering but not gag-me-with-a-spoon (Yes, my 80's is showing) awful either.
