The Realms of the Dead is two novellas in one book. Crossfades is the first short, followed by Bleedovers, which is the sequel. They should be read in order for them to work together. The first short story can be a stand alone, I don't think the second book would work by itself.
Both novellas are quite dark, intense, and graphic. This is especially true of Crossfades, the first book, which doesn't let up long enough for you to take a breath. Bleedovers contains more character introspection, and a little less graphic content and intensity.
