This is a wonderful, scary, coming of age story for upper middle grade and YA readers. Moss lives with her father, an executioner in London. It's Moss's job to catch the heads as they are severed from their bodies. She REALLY doesn't want this job anymore but her father insists that if he leaves, that he will be killed. Moss decides to risk leaving anyway, to try fulfill a bargain made with the Riverwitch.
