There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

A comparatively rare period story, set in the 20s-40s US/ New York City. The story evolves round Al, who left behind her small town and head towards new York. The main story evolves around her growth and the people she met along the way. It depicted the struggles throughout the period, difficulties in getting into the entertainment industry, how the whole concept of LGBT was being shunned by society and needs to go underground, how war affected everyone. What I feel is missing though, is more emotions and passion and less subtlety. Over all, it’s still an enjoyable read.
