This novel is not your everyday military romance. First of all, it deals with Ash, a SEAL who is home injured and unsure whether he'll ever return to duty, and Lia, a woman with demons she has never been able to face, living the life of someone who is incredibly emotionally scarred. Second, both characters seem to be suffering from PTSD but unclear of how to help themselves and each other, and finally, there is a mystery aspect to the novel.

I really enjoyed it. I love the twist of the first two points I mentioned above. It makes for very detailed characters. However, the mystery aspect is what I had a little difficulty with. Lia continually refuses to tell Ash anything about her life prior to the time she lived in the cottage, and I was frustrated by the fact that she hid herself so well, not just from Ash, but from me, the reader. The other part of the mystery I had trouble with, is that when she finally does divulge the story to him he makes use of it. In what I consider a horrible and distasteful way. Like Lia, I suppose, I understand why he did it, but I'm not sure I would have responded the same way she does. This being said, the novel has so many parts to it that are very good. There's such a caring and supportive nature to the novel that I absolutely love. As well as a sense of absurd hilarity that put a smile on my face. It'll be interesting to see where the rest of this series leads.
