I liked Drea in the Strongest Steel where Harper was concerned but where Cujo was concerned I didn't like the raging bitch that happened to her when he entered the picture. This detail made me a bit shy when reading this one and I kept putting it off for that reason, but I eventually took the plunge and quite enjoyed it even though Drea really did still annoy me.
Throughout the story we got to know why she acts the way she does and your heart does go out for her situation but her turning to super sleuth when everyone was in danger perplexed me also the fact that she was basically repeating the martyr role that she told her friend to not do and then did it herself didn't win me over. I always prefer stories within series to be different from each other instead of being very similar just with different backgrounds and a different suspense.
Some examples of when I got stressed when reading:
~ It wasn't right to drag him into her problems any further. ~
NOOOOOO not again another heroine being a martyr and not wanting to inconvenience anyone. Argh!
~ Sincerity radiated from him. If only she could rely on him. On anyone. Maybe is she pushed him away, he would be safer. She took a deep breath and steeled herself as she looked around the neighborhood. ~
ARgh! Did she learn nothing from her best friend. The answer is NO she didn't.
~ But the truth hadn't. She deserved to have her own kids, and he couldn't ask her to compromise on something so important.
Argh! Try communicating instead of assuming. Why? Why? Can couples communicate in romance genre? Why? Isn't there any other way to create angst?
~ "I'm not in a good place, Brody. For us to work, I need to come to you whole. Not in pieces, expecting you to be the glue."
For fucks sake. I get it but this still was annoying to me.
"Drea, I love who you were before. I love who you are right now. I'm gonna love you ten years from now. I hope you're not the same, because it means we've grown. I just want to be the one who gets to it with you."
For the most part I did really like Brody/Cujo but he too annoyed me with his secret and the not telling her and repeatedly pushing her away for her own good.
Thank you so much for being willing to grant me access to this book. Unfortunately, life obligations have prevented me from doing so. If my schedule clears, I plan on reviewing this in the future and will post the review on Amazon and Goodreads. Thank you.
I love this series. At first I wasn't sure if I would like this one based on the blurb. But once I started reading it I was hooked and couldn't put it down.
While I enjoyed this book, I didn't think it was nearly as good as the first one of the series. That one was utterly fantastic, so my expectations for this one were high. I liked the characters of Brody and Andrea, but they didn't capture my heart the way the Harper and Trent did in the first book. I also thought the storyline here, while interesting, wasn't nearly as compelling as in The Strongest Steel. I hope the next book by this author will match the first one!
