Highly entertaining and a good go to comfort read. These are the books I like to come home to after a long day at work. Easy to slip into and do not require a lot from the reader. Charley Davidson is fun and quirky and gives me what I need in an easy read!

I'm going to write this review as a "series" review because, quite frankly, I binge read the whole series THIRTEEN books in one week. I literally couldn't put them down. When I read the last page of the last book, I wanted to cry.

Book one hooks you from the start. The world that Darynda built within this series is phenomenally creative. It's full of magic and mystery. The hero is the perfect anti-hero turned true hero that I've read in a long, long time. My heart broke for the trials and tribulations the hero and heroine went through to get to the end of the series. Calling it an emotional rollercoaster doesn't even cover the vast span of emotions that the author drags the reader through.

The only complaint I have is that the series ended.... there was a "the end" and I didn't want to be done yet. A complete must read for all PNR lovers!

Always a good read, I couldn’t guess what was going to happen right up until the end! I can’t wait until the next book.

Thank you to NetGalley, I received this and the rest of books 1-12 of this series in exchange for honest reviews.

Unpopular opinion alert... *ducks and covers* Ugh, I'm upset actually. After the last book, I was marginally excited to like Charley and the series again after being burnt out on them. However, this book was, at least in my opinion, almost 100% filler. Nothing really happened here. *bangs head on desk*

On the other hand, I can't really quit you either, Charley...you're like my Godiva habit...gah, don't make me regret moving onto book 10. As always, the books are well-written, the snark on point, the characters campy and fun...just, like I said, it seemed to be a filler book for me. I'll see how I feel after book 10. 2 stars.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. This book was a little more to my liking than the 7th and 8th ones were but I am starting to get burnt out on the whole thing. I maybe should not have tried to read them all back to back. I have taken so long to read these all.

She is back!
Even if it was just for one book. I loved it

I loved seeing Charley do her own thing again. I get so tired of Rayes scolding her all the time

Dear Rayes,
I do what I want.

Anywho

Charley has forgotten who she is and all of her friends and family have infiltrated this little town to keep an eye on her. Cookie is front and center and I love her more all the time.
Of course Charley finds a mystery that must be solved and gets herself into tons of trouble.
I loved this installment of the Charley chronicles. It felt like old times.
Even though she doesn't know who she is she actually learns more about her powers and who she is, so it isn't a story stand still by any means.

A re-read thanks to a promotion by Netgalley for the final Charley Davidson book. I love this series and so happy to have it in my e-reader instead of getting a loan from the library.

That was a pothole in the Charlie Davidson series. She had amnesia the whole time and called herself Janey Doe.

Lame.

This feels like a reboot and that's good. For the past few books, the scope has gotten bigger and bigger until it seemed to incomparable to the first. However this is a back to the roots of the series and I loved it. And the humour and banter is non-stop so I love it.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed reading this. An interesting story with fun characters. Well written.

I do not know how Ms. Jones keeps on keeping me enthralled, but I absolutely love her books! Just when I think that there isn't too much more that Charley can do, Ms. Jones proves me wrong. I absolutely adore all of the characters, and the story line keeps me hostage until the end. I can not wait to find out what happens next.

I'm a huge fan of this series but I have to admit after the disappointment of book eight I put off starting this one for quite a while. I just wasn't sure what to expect from a Charley with no memory and was worried that this would be another filler book that didn't really add much to the overall story arc. In a way I was right about that, nothing huge happens in this book and I don't think you'd really miss much by skipping it. However, this was FAR better than book eight, it's back to being more of an action oriented story as Charley goes out of her way to try and solve a mystery and save people she's only just met. It feels like this series is starting to get back on track and I'm back to being excited to carry on reading it

Charley spends nearly the whole book in a strange kind of limbo wondering who she is and where she's from, more importantly she wonders why nobody has come looking for her. What she doesn't realise is that her closest friends and family have all inserted themselves into her new life so all of they're still with her even if she doesn't recognise them. I have to say I didn't really buy the reasoning of keeping their identities hidden from her, Charley is so distraught at not knowing who she is and she thinks she must have been a terrible person because nobody is looking for her and they could have saved her a lot of that pain by being honest with her.

It was interesting to see that even without knowing her history her personality hasn't changed. She still cares about the underdogs and wants to help people. Watching her try to figure out why she could see dead people everywhere she went was quite hilarious, particularly when she had a run in with a ghost horse! I also loved getting back that intense sexual tension between her and Reyes. Charley doesn't remember him but she's still totally attracted to him and doesn't understand why he goes from practically eating her with his eyes to acting like he hates her. Reyes on the other hand is dreadfully angry at Charley for leaving him, he's angry about the situation they're in and he's hurt that she could forget him but he still loves her and is desperately hoping she'll come back to him. It makes for some wonderful will they / won't they moments between them that I couldn't get enough of.

I'm very glad that Charley eventually gets her memory back, I don't think I could read another book of her second guessing herself and everyone around her because she knows they're hiding things but doesn't know what or why. I'm hoping that from here onwards we're going to get back to the series I love and I can't wait to see how Charley and Reyes' story ends.

I am still loving this wonderful, quirky series. I have recommended the books to lots of my friends and family and so far everyone is as obsessed as I am! On to the next one.

I loved this book. I think it’s one of my favorites out of the whole series. Charley has amnesia and it’s fascinstinf to me that even with amnesia she gravitates towards the same people she cares for when she is herself. They all agreed to not tell her anything and just pretend she is someone else entirely. Let her figure things out. When she becomes an amnesiac she meets Ian. Definitely someone who is creepy and she finds out has a not so innocent past. Can’t wait to read book 10. Thank you NerGslley for allowing me to review this book.

This series is always in high demand at my library. The characters Daryna Jones uses are delightful and my readers love getting to know them more each book. Fabulous series!

The Dirt on Ninth Grave feels like a regression to me. Charley has an epic blowout in the eighth book (literally - she blows herself out to New York) and has no idea who she is, so she scrounges up a living as waitress Janey Doerr. Meanwhile the majority of Scooby Gang is there to keep an eye on her, but she has no idea who they are, even though she's quickly besties with Cookie again and immediately attracted to Reyes (naturally). This book does go back to the original concept of Charley helping people, which is appealing. But it doesn't have the humor of the earlier books, and it's missing the entertaining dynamics of the characters and the relationship they have with Charley. I miss the perfect combinations of humor, mystery and sexiness that were in perfect form in books 4 and 5, where Jones was at her best.

The Dirt on Ninth Grave is really I hate to say more of the same except that in this book Charlie looses her memories. She doesn’t know who she or anyone is. It does end on another cliffhanger. It was more confusing then it was a great addition to the series. Just wasn’t for me I guess. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.

Once again, Darynda Jones makes a slight departure from the vibe of the earlier books without losing the basic formula that makes this series amazing. She stays true to herself and the story while also growing the characters and plot. It's fantastic. It was an interesting book, while also being a little frustrating (you just want to shout out all the truths!) and sweet and heartfelt and mysterious. Still love this series to no end.

I have read and reviewed all previous books in this series and I have loved every single one of the books. I love that Charley Davidson is a kickass lady.

I can't wait to read the next instalment in this series and sad that I will soon be at the last book but that is ok because I will be reading this series again in the future .

I am terribly behind in this series. The finale, Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave, is out and I am up to #9. In order to promote the latest in the series, NetGalley was offering Read Now downloads of the rest of the series. So, I grabbed #9.

If you have never read any Charley Davidson books, The Dirt on the Ninth Grave would be an interesting place to start. But if you plan to read it without reading books 1-8, quit now, or there will be spoilers.

Imagine if you are not familiar with Charley’s background and you dive into book 9 and there is this amnesiac who has some strange abilities. She is surrounded by a group of people, co-workers and customers, that are at the diner she works for every day. One of her co-workers quickly became her best friend.

But you do know Charley’s background and you know that Charley is the amnesiac who mysteriously transported from New Mexico to New York at the end of book 8. Reyes, Cookie, Uncle Bob, Gareth, and Osh have found her and now they hang with her every day, but don’t tell her who she is. Why? You have to keep reading to find out.

As is typical in a Charley story, there are ghosts that need to figure out how to move on, a mystery to solve and the continuation of Charley’s supernatural life. The format of the story has not changed, just the name. Jane Doe. Or Janey Dooer, “because Jane Doe was so last week”.

Charley’s supernaturalness gets more supernatural with every book. She will never be one of us again. By us, I mean basic human. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I like, no, I love, Charley as she is. Smart, funny, brave, highly irreverent, and always knows exactly what to say. Will she ever lose any of those traits that we love as she transcends to her fated self? I hope not!!!!

This is the first Charley Davidson book I have actually read. Audiobooks got me through books 1-8. But narrator Lorelei King is sooo good, I could hear her voice as I read book 9. I’ve got to get back to the audiobooks as I continue. Or Ms. Jones’ writing is so good that Lorelei King and I are in sync when we read the story. Either way, I love these books and I will get caught up!

Through NetGalley, the publisher provided a copy of this book so that I could bring you my honest review.
