I'd never heard of Clarina before I read this book and now feel like she is one of my heroes. We tend to get complacent as 21st Century women, feeling that the fight for equality is over. But it's not. And we'd do well to remember what risks women like Clarina took.

This is one of the best books I've read on women's rights. Clarina Nichols deserves wider recognition for her role, and I wish that I could talk to such a brave and intelligent woman. My favorite part is where she speaks to the Vermont legislature and says that men shouldn't tease women about wanting to wear pants until men give up the right to own women's skirts (since they owned ALL their wive's property). I highly recommend this book!
