A heart pounding story…
Many thanks to Chelshire Inc. and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really wanted to like this book. after all, I enjoyed Jurassic Park and always love a good monster fest.
Maybe it is just my boredom with all things stupid teen, or not caring about dumb celebrities.
Basically, I didn't care when things start to go South at the theme park with actual Vampires, Zombies, and Werewolves.
It just fell flat!
I received this free from NetGalley.
I recently bought a new kindle after my old one broke. For some reason I was unable to download this title from the cloud onto my kindle, therefore I will be unable to review this title. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused
I requested Monsterland because of the synopsis sounded amazing. Vampires, werewolves and zombies. Yes please!
Monsterland was very fast paced and it was like a more adult version of goosebumps. I loved how it was a park and it reminded me of a 80’s film.
There is a cliffhanger, but luckily the second book is already out.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me the chance to read and review.
When Vincent Konrad decides to make a Monster Theme Park with Vampires, Werewolves and Zombies being the highlight, everyone is excited. None more so than Wyatt Baldwin, who manages to get special passes. Along with his friends, they argue over which is the best monster and enter the greatest Theme Park in existence. With 7 theme parks in 6 continents opening at the same time, things seem to be going smoothly for Konrad, but monsters and theme parks don't mix!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! It's fast paced, entertaining and a fun read. The author does an amazing job of getting us to connect with the character, even the monsters!! There is plenty of POVs in this and I loved getting to know the monsters more. It was fascinating to see the "zoo" from their point of view. Konrad pitches the Theme Park to the monsters as a safe haven from humans and from being hunted. But in reality they are being held captive and they know it!!
Wyatt and is friends were awesome too. They are such monster geeks and love arguing over which is best! This Theme Park is their dream come true and I adored seeing them in it. Could you imagine being able to walk through Vampire Village, or Ride down Werewolf River, or even walk through the Zombies?? Heaven for the boys.
In all, this was a really fun book. I wanted to read it because it reminds me of Jurassic Park, which is one of my absolute favourite movies!!! I mean, Theme Park plus Monsters, what could possibly go wrong!!! The author has created a great world and I would love to revisit these characters again! If you're in the mood for a kind of nostalgic but gripping read, then this is the book for you!!
Wyatt's life is anything but easy. His father never really paid attention to him and his younger brother and they haven't seen him after the divorce. His father only cared about his career and money and then dies under mysterious circumstances. Wyatt has to come to terms with his new home situation. Fortunately he still has his friends, they always discuss creatures and if either vampires, werewolves or zombies are the strongest. When word gets out that a place called Monsterland will be opened in their small town they're over the moon. What would a theme park filled with these creatures be like?
Vincent Konrad is very rich and he's opening Monsterland theme parks in six different places at once. He's spent a lot of time preparing for every kind of situation. Many important people are invited to a special behind the scenes tour on opening night. Vampires are almost extinct and they see this place as a new start, somewhere they can be safe. Werewolves have been taken against their will and have been planning their escape ever since. Zombies don't really have a mind of their own anymore when the infection settles in, but some are not that far along. How can a park full of monsters ever be risk free?
Wyatt and his friends get behind the scenes invitations from Vincent Konrad when he steps into the diner where Wyatt works. They can't wait to see what's lies inside the park's enormous gates. Nobody expects that Vincent Konrad built his theme parks with hidden motives. He wants total control of the world and has carefully planned the opening night. The teens are in for the ride of their life and I couldn't wait to find out who would be up for the thrill.
Monsterland is a terrifying story about each of your worst nightmares under one roof. I'm a big fan of the Jurassic Park movies and Monsterland reminded me of those. People will always be challenging their fears and I think that if a park like Monsterland would be built, it would attract a lot of visitors. Would I buy a ticket? I would probably be one of the first to stand in line, but I would definitely be scared out of my mind. Michael Okon has taken a unique approach to scary books with Monsterland and I loved how he alternates between people and creatures. I absolutely loved this first Monsterland book and am eager to read more of Michael Okon's stories.
Fun read. Reminded me of "Goosebumps" with more decapitations.
The story line was good. It really kept pulling you along. The characters were likeable, but the star of the show was Monsterland itself. I want this to be a real place! I would visit in a heartbeat!!
This book is what would happen if the writers of Goosebumps made an episode of Supernatural, having just watched Jurassic World.
It’s got the campiness of Goosebumps (think especially of One Day in Horrorland), the episodic pace and the fun of Supernatural and....some plot points that scream Jurassic World (although sadly no dinosaurs).
It’s a quick, fun read for what it is and if you enjoy a straightforward writing style and camp, horror-comedy you may well enjoy this little morsel!
I liked this book, very fast read and great characters and plot
