I lost interest early in this read. The writing did not keep my attention. Someone else may find it entertaining.

This is one of my favorite kids' storybooks! it turns the fantasy trope around by having the hero be a goblin who has to rescue his friend Skeleton from a group of marauding adventurers!

I absolutely adore Ben Hatke's Nobody Likes a Goblin. In this cute little story, your typical fantasy adventurers exploring dungeons gets turned on its head, as the book is told from the perspective of a little goblin whose treasure trove and best friend are taken one day by adventurers looting his dungeon. The brave little goblin goes on an adventure of his own in an effort to bring back Skeleton. Hatke's illustrations are bright, colorful, and incredibly charming, as is the ultimate reversal of expectations. This book is just wonderful.

Perfect for fans of fantasy (especially D&D players) with gorgeous illustrations. Great for readlouds with kids and any storytime focusing on fantasy.

Yet another review I've owed First Second for a while! Sorry, First Second.

I requested this one because I've loved everything of Ben Hatke's that I have ever read, and this was no exception. The art is great, there's the right amount of text (some picture books are waaay too text-heavy), and it is the CUTEST. It turns the usual high fantasy quest story on its head by having our hero be a friendly goblin, and a group of adventurers swooping in to (almost) ruin his life.
I checked this one out from the library, but I'm seriously contemplating buying a copy for myself and all of the teachers and children I know.

I didn't use the copy to which First Second gave me early access, as it expired before I got to it (grad school is a beast, 5/10, would not necessarily recommend), but this review was an honest one nonetheless. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me a chance to read it early!
