Rosie, the Raven by Helga Bansch, tells the story of a young girl who hatches from an egg alongside her raven siblings. Rosie tries to do everything like her raven siblings but soon realizes she is different, but Rosie’s parents love her nonetheless. This is a sweet story that illustrates that differences aren’t harmful. The illustrations have a unique style with a touch of comic strip style, collage-type artwork, and dramatic use of color.
This story was sort of strange, but I get it: it's ok to be different. Some of my students might like it, while other students won't get into it.
I know this was supposed to be a story of accepting yourself for who you are but while the message was there it was just bland and not that entertaining or engaging. Not for me.
I received this book from the publisher and netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
