There is something so wholesomely sweet in the story that Katy Evans wove here that you can't help but get pulled it. Legend captivated me with its flawed yet loveable characters. You root for them; their success, their triumphs. their joy, their love.
I liked Reese right away. She is witty, sarcastic a touch needy and trying to find out who she really wants to be. I admired her strength to put in the work it takes to be the best version of yourself. She did it for no one else but herself and along the way she found so much more than she knew was possible- she found Maverick Cage.
Oh my, that man (and he is all man despite his young age), pulls you in with his steely gaze and intensity. His drive and determination to be the best is what fuels him. He's motivated to prove all the naysayers wrong in more ways than one. He finds an unexpected ally and the plans for his legacy are forever changed. The thing he never planned for was finding Reese. Her quiet self confidence slays him. She sees him; not just the fighter but the man behind the gloves. And he sees her too.
Their relationship brought out the best in both of them. It was sexy and sweet all a the same time. Reese opened up and shared parts of her that she never had before. Mav let some of his anger go and stepped up to be the man she deserved. They instinctively "get" each other. He's with her and she's his. Even with the odds stacked against them.
Legend was the exact ending this series needed and Katy Evan didn't disappoint at all. I loved the ending she gave this crew. It has all come down to this...That final fight scene had me holding my breath and my heart pounding. I felt the intensity of every punch and with each round my anxiety grew to see just how it would all turn out. When all was said and done I found myself wanting so much more of Reese and Mav and their wonderfully messy love story.
