Love the Oxford and Stiletto series and this did not disappoint! I did not like this quite as much as the first book but it was still worth a read. It's a light, easy read with likeable characters.
I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.
I'm a huge Lauren Layne fan so as usual - I loved this book from beginning to end and couldn't put it down and read it all the way through in one night! The love romance between the 2 characters always seems real and does a great job of building up instead of that fake inst-attraction that you find in most books.
In I Wish You Were Mine, we meet Jackson Burke. He was happily married a year ago to Madison, living his dream life. But when it all fell apart, he had to put his life back together alone. After an injury and a life altering career move, he moves to New York where his ex-wife’s sister happens to live as well. The two get together for drinks and that is when something starts to change between them. Then, just when he is getting himself in a positive point in his life in walks his ex. She wants him back after what she has put him through, but he isn’t so sure. He should be excited to take her back after the heartbreak he has went through, but he just can’t be. He is overcome in his thoughts about her younger sister Mollie.
Mollie was the one person he always wanted and could never have. She is being recruited if you will, by her older sister to help her win her ex-husband back. Mollie has always been in love with Jackson and isn’t sure she can put her feelings aside to help her sister get him back when she doesn’t deserve him to begin with. Madison was awful to him and the way the two ended, Mollie just knows she can’t give him back to her now that they have started becoming friends and whatever else they are to each other. Madison doesn’t want to give up and tries to manipulate them both in more ways than one.
This story is full of heart and emotion, loss and forgiveness, and so much passion. The characters were each so different and as a sibling you can really see how different your own sister is in times like these. Jackson has to decide what he wants in the end, and if he can really get rid of Madison for good, all while deciding what he feels for Mollie and if she feels the same. I want to say this is a love triangle, but it really isn’t. I can just feel the chemistry and connection between Mollie and Jackson and if you want to find out how all this ends and what twists there are along the way, grab I Wish You Were Mine!!!
Received an ARC for an honest review.
I forgot how much I love the folks at Oxford/Stiletto. Jackson is fighting his transition into civilian life after an injury ends his pro-football career and there to help him is Mollie, the younger sister of his heinous ex-wife. I liked that the author gave us a prologue so that we could see at least one scene of how close Jackson and Mollie were at the beginning. Added with them talking about their past, I could see them coming together and found myself rooting for them.
The drama that came with Madison was fun to read if a little cringe-y at how terrible she was and Mollie had really come into her own. I always love when an author gives me both points of view and being able to see Jackson's struggles helped flesh out the story for me.
All in all a great read and I'm excited for Lincoln's story.
I'm sure most fans of the Oxford series will agree with me when I say we're all waiting on pins and needles for Lincoln's book. When the blurb for I Wish You Were Mine, I was excited that this was actually going to be Jackson's book. Although we don't really get to meet him at the end of the previous book, he still struck a cord with me and I was a giddy school girl as I fell in love with him in this book. Oh boy, he was amazing. Torn between the loss of his career and his future as a journalist, he doesn't know which was is up. Then Mollie comes back into his life and everything seems right again. Always coming second to her beautiful sister, Mollie is finally able to be with the man she's always wanted. I loved these characters. Jackson was perfection, a new favorite book boyfriend. Mollie was an absolute doll. She's spunky and tenacious. She can hold her own against any man, including the infamous Lincoln. Together, Jackson and Mollie were so much fun. I loved their bickering and laughter. The ending... My heart soared with them.
After devouring I Wish You Were Mine that day, I had a huge grin on my face. Going back to re-read it a couple weeks ago to refresh my memory, the grin was still there. This is a book that'll stick with me, one that I'm sure I'll re-read once more right before the release of the final book in the Oxford series. And be still my heart, we'll finally get to watch Lincoln in all his glory.
